With beginners, our democratic style of coaching with beginners allows the coach and student to share in the learning process; thus making it a team effort to develop strokes.
There are many situations in tennis that have variations in swing technique. For instance, both a 1-handed backhand and 2-handed backhand are acceptable variations of the backhand; 1 handed works better for some students and 2 handed for others. That is why we create a democratic learning environment where techniques are presented as alternatives. We work with the student to discover the best alternative.
Break Point Toronto separates from other programs with our high frequency of ball feeds. Beginner players developing new strokes benefit the most with a higher frequency of ball striking and because of this; beginners often develop a couple of advanced-beginner level strokes within their first 6 lessons. Be prepared to hit a ton of balls …it can be a fun workout! We'll spend zero time chasing after any mis-hit shots. You can hit 20 over the fence and it won’t matter…our focus is just to get ready for that next stroke and focus on creating muscle memory on developing your swing pathway.
Developmental coaching identifies opportunities for player growth and promotes development that has greater potential in the long term.
This is helpful for players who have hit a beginner plateau. Our coaching style encourages developing new strokes that will produce positive results later on. For instance, graduating from a basic serve with low amounts of lower body movement to a pinpoint or platform serve. Adding this new style of serving will often initially render a lower percentage success but offer a greater future potential. "Things will get worse before they get better". Patience and the promise of eventual returns can create success for developmental players.
Get ready to hit a lot of tennis balls! On average, the number of ‘hits’ you get is 200 more / per hour than fellow high level tennis trainers. This is what Tennis Lessons Toronto does better than peers with national level coaching experience. You will develop muscle memory faster with a higher frequency of ball striking; you won't have to think about your stroke mechanics anymore...your muscles will be trained to automatically respond in serving motions and all types of incoming shots.
This style encourages and empowers players by giving players clear direction and strategies for achieving objectives and encouraging focus.
With more competitive players we create a vision on how to accumulate "wins". As an advanced player, be prepared to ‘spar’ in simulated match situations; and utilize the vision to collect winners and produce opponent errors. As a competitive, advanced player; your weaknesses will be picked apart in these "spar" sessions. Once a weakness is discovered we repeat the occurrence with high frequency ball feeds and we will adjust your swing pathway until a high degree of success is achieved. We'll then simulate a match situation again and persist until the weakness becomes neutralized.
This form of coaching acknowledges that you can't really excel without paying attention to both your strengths and weaknesses. We also spend time developing attack shots and when to use them.
