From a skill development perspective, there is no recommended starting class as each skill has its own unique learning pathway. There is no prerequisite for any of the beginner classes.
You may, however, want to consider starting with the class that interests you the most or a class that fits your schedule. Keep in mind that regardless of the class theme, all shots are still practiced.
The format is 50% focused on instruction within the class "theme", 25% instruction on other strokes, and 25% on gameplay with coach feedback on your newly developed skill(s).
No, there is absolutely no recommended sequence. Learning how to do a "backhand" theme class first does not prepare you for a "serve" theme class. They are totally unique skills.
Register for whatever class that interests you the most within your level. Some players may wish to only register for multiple "backhand" classes, while others may wish to take 1 of every "theme" before reassessing what to participate in next. Some students may select classes that are just convenient locations for their schedule.
We highly recommend you do not think of the skills of tennis learning in a sequence; it is a dynamic sport that involves numerous skills. We'll be there on court in a 4:1 ratio, so rest assured your skills will come together.
Also, remember that and all shots are practiced in every class - there is simply more emphasis on the theme.
Initially, students often find themselves guessing there level. This works out most of the time, however, when a coach identifies a student in the wrong level, BreakPoint will reach out to the student with reassignment options into their correct level.
When reassignments are communicated, students may be rquired to stay within their 'initially registered level' for a period of 2 weeks until we can transfer them into their proper division. If you are concerned about signing up for the wrong level, be sure to space out your classes 2 weeks apart at the beginning.
Coaches are skilled at training students playing at different levels, so don't worry about being in the wrong level for a short period of time. The coach may feed balls at different speeds to accomodate a player in the wrong level.
It's also very important to play "challengers", "tournaments" and "socials" for finding your true level. Players that restrict themselves to classes often find themselves never being able to play tennis on their own - they simply get too used to a coach feeding a ball to their hitting zone and are thrown completely off once a match starts. So get involved in play options early ("challengers", "tournaments" & "socials") and don't stress about getting beat multiple times before finally getting a win. This is the truest form of finding your level.
Most definitely. It is highly unlikely you will advance to the next level after just 1 class.
Moving up a level will require a combination of playing "challengers", "tournaments" & "socials", hitting against a wall &/or taking classes. We'll help u make it happen and make it totally fun along the way.
No, the format is 50% focused on instruction within the class "theme", 25% instruction on other strokes, and 25% on gameplay with coach feedback on your newly developped stroke(s).
Yes. Generally speaking, students often find themselves able to play/ learn within 2 different levels. For instance, It's very common for a player to say "on a good day I'm a 2.5 player, and on a bad day I'm a 2.0 player". This student would be welcome to join either the 2.0 beginner level or the 2.5 advanced-beginner level.
At the start of class, each student gets to select what they want to improve. The coach will devise drills to allow for each student to practice their desired choice. 75% of the class is focused on high frequency ball feeds & 25% is spent on playing game. There is still coaching thruout, tho the focus is more on "timing" and "contact point" & less on technique (vs a traditional class).
